I am a seasoned writing instructor and consultant, with more than fifteen years of experience teaching writing at New York City’s top universities. As an expert in first-year college writing, I love working with students on college applications essays and academic essays. As a climate journalist and communications professional, I love working with academic writers on turning technical prose into clear, compelling stories for a public audience. In my consultations, I go beyond helping writers creating a good one-off product: I help writers discover and hone their ideas through a rewarding, structured creative process packed with transferrable skills.

College Essay Consultations

I work one-on-one with students on crafting their college application essays, bringing deep experience in the genre: I created and taught in NYU’s K-12 ARISE college essay application consultation program, which supports students underrepresented in STEM applying for colleges. Professional Consultations

I consult with academics seeking to write for a popular audience or apply for NSF & NIH grants. Recently, I helped a neurobiology professor, whose first language is not English, edit papers for clarity and fluency, and the reviewers complimented his writing style.
